Here’s to a New Year, Sky’s the Limit

New Year 2016

Happy New Year everyone! I know I haven’t posted here in a while. Truthfully, 2015, particularly the end of it, was not the greatest year for me. I won’t say it was a bad year because with everything that went on in the world last year and with the continued suffering of many who have far greater worries than I do, I can’t really complain. It wasn’t the year that I had mapped out and that I wanted it to be and that was largely in part to the depression that I sunk into, but I am heading into 2016 ready to leave 2015 right in the past where it should stay.

I do have plans to release quite a few things this year but I won’t discuss them in detail until the dates get closer. I also have some new things I’m planning on doing with the magazine, Write 2 Be Magazine, that I hope everyone will like and appreciate. I don’t plan on posting everyday here but I do plan on posting often enough for you to be kept in the loop. I hope you all have your plans in order and will challenge yourselves this year to do amazing and new things. Here’s a figurative toast to the New Year, New Goals, New Drive, and to saying YES to anything being possible. Happy New Year Everyone! Until next time…

New Year, New Drive, No More Fear

New Year New Goals

Well it’s a New Year and I can’t say that I am not glad (ecstatic) to see 2014 go away. Last year was not my year and it was a pretty bad one, especially financially, and I think I was pretty much depressed for most of it. I had even let my health goals get totally off track and let the fear of the unknown take control. I can’t sit here and say that it’s someone else’s fault or that because someone else didn’t hold true to their word to me that this was the reason why things went wrong and just continued to spiral down a bad path.

Life is a bumpy road in which every test is going to be thrown at you that you could possibly imagine and your success is determined on how well, or how poorly, you respond to those setbacks. Last year I let all the setbacks get the better of me and I let them win. That’s not normally what I would do but it’s what I did. That is my fault and mine alone. I can’t say that I am any more prepared for this year than I was for the last one but I can say that I am prepared to not just lie down and get run over by every setback that comes my way.

I can say that no matter how many curveballs that I get thrown this year that I am going to throw them right back because I am not a quitter and I am certainly too close to all of my dreams to start being one now. I have set my goals for this year, put together a list of the projects that I plan (or hope) to finish and/or start this year, and even a list of the books I plan on reading this year. I also got me two planners, one as my editorial calendar for my blog, my magazine, and my Confessions blog about my weight loss journey, and the other calendar is for the projects that I will be working on. I hope this will help me get even more organized but better yet, to get more focused which will allow me to be more productive.

I am determined to make this year a much better one, not perfect, but better. I am still a believer that everything happens for a reason, if for no other reason than to teach you something, and last year taught me that I can be put through hell and then some and I still won’t break. Even in the first week of this new, and supposedly brighter, year the devil has already tested me with (you guessed it) some financial issues, and I was down about it but I am not going to let the devil win this year. I am not just going to lie down and let him win.

I am feeling more driven and more determined and I am going to do my best to make the best of any and all situations and I am not going to let them defeat me. I hope that your year is getting off to a great and productive start and that you all have a plan to put into action this year.

New Year, New Goals, New Deadlines

Goals are dreams with deadlines

It’s a New Year and I am a little late at getting started on my goals, one of them being returning back to my normal blogging style.  It seems I was thrown a major obstacle in the first week of it being a new year.  I had been anticipating this year and all of the things that I hope that it holds for me but I didn’t factor in that for great rewards there will more than likely be even greater struggles.  It is so much easier said than done to just “get over it” and not let whatever the issues you are facing bother you.  It’s particularly hard when you feel like every time you start being able to stay afloat some circumstance comes along to push you right back underwater again.

I have made plans for the New Year and set my expectations for myself and once again I am afraid that I might have been a bit too ambitious.  However, I am going to do my best to make those goals happen and despite how this year is starting off I am going to try my hardest to make the most of it.  This is my first blog post of the New Year and I am excited to see what this year has in store for me in my writing career and every other aspect of my life.  Hope all of your New Year’s goals are set and that you aren’t as late getting started on them as I am.

Out With the Old and In With the New

That’s the saying that people use when they decide to give up old practices and old ways that weren’t working and vow to shift their efforts in a new direction.  Well this year has just begun and that is exactly what it is time for.  Sometimes that saying can also apply to the people that you choose to keep in your life as well.

A part of forging a path that leads to being successful is making sure that you have the right attitude (a positive one), you have a heavy amount of faith, a drive to get to where you want to end up, and the right support system surrounding you.  If one aspect of your path is not right for you it throws everything else around it off, even if that one aspect is the people that are around you.

I realized yesterday (with some advice from my best friend Ms. L.) that sometimes there are just people that you have in your life that you outgrow and while there is nothing wrong with them per say, they just simply are not a good fit for the journey that you are trying to take.  It may just be that their direction and yours is shifting away from each other and your objectives are just too different from one another.

On the first day of this year, as you shift towards whatever direction you are heading in, or even if the path you were already on is working and you’re just continuing on, make sure that you reevaluate the people that are on your journey with you.  Make sure that they are not going to hinder the journey that you are on with their own objectives that are not aligned with yours.  Make sure that they are really for you and not working against you.  Make sure that they truly want to see you succeed instead of standing by rooting for you to fail.  Don’t keep the wrong people around you simply because they have always been there.  They have always been there for all of the wrong reasons.  Happy New Year and may this year be everything that we all dream for it to be.

Ready for the New Year!

I wish I could explain my absence from the blog saying that I was in just such a writing frenzy that I couldn’t tear myself away from my novel, or my articles, or my work for various clients in order to blog.  Unfortunately I can not say any of that.  I had intended on getting a lot of work done last week but intentions do not necessarily mean action and I hate to say that I did not put action into those intentions.

I had time away from having to do homework for school and my daughter was even gone for a few days with her father but the time just disappeared into thin air.  I did some reading and I did some planning in my head but as for them making them to the actual physical form of being on paper (or on the computer screen), it just didn’t happen.  I’m not going to make excuses because there aren’t any.

If I waste time dwelling in what I didn’t do that was supposed to get done by now then nothing still gets done.  I promised that in this coming year that I was going to direct my focus on the things that I can control in my life and not continue harping on what I couldn’t.  I can’t go back in time and change things to be the way that I want them to be so I will live in the present and just do better.

I’ve already made my lists of the accomplishments that I WILL get done in 2013 and I am already in the mindset to accept that things must change and that all of my efforts will be directed towards making the changes that need to be made in order to get back on track.  Hopefully all of you are geared up and ready for the New Year and have your plans of action ready to be put in motion.  Happy New Year everyone and let’s make this the year it is meant to be!

Slow Progression

It is coming up on the third week of January and I already feel like I am so behind on my action plan to accomplish my goals this year.  Yes I know that it is only week 3 of a new year and I have the whole year ahead of me.  But in case you’re not aware of it, that time will fly by without you even realizing it.  I suppose that the important thing is that I acknowledge I can be doing better and I put forth the effort to continually make progress.

I know that next week will be a challenge because I am finally going to get around to getting started on sending out at least one of the four query letters that I set out to send on a monthly basis (I might increase that number later on in the year).  Also I plan on getting back to the novel that I worked on during National Novel Writing month which I took a longer than unexpected break from.  Not to mention that I have a Magazine to finish putting together for its debut.

With all of that said I am going to go read now because to be a better writer I also have to become an even more avid reader.  I know that I’ve got to get moving on my goal list (because it is quite long) but I am just glad that I haven’t completely stalled.  I am making progress, even if it is a slow progression, it is progress nonetheless.  Until tomorrow…What counts is that you make progress, not how quickly the progress is made.

Looking for a Writing Course

One of the goals on my list for the 2012 year is to take a couple of writing courses.  Even the greatest of writers (which I am working on becoming) need to enhance their already impeccable writing skills.  There might be techniques that they have forgotten or desire to learn and a course every now and then can be just the thing to help.  I specifically would like to take a course in writing short stories because I have the hardest time writing them (possibly because I am so incredibly long-winded) and I just need some instruction in that particular area.  Now I don’t know when I will be taking this course because I haven’t even found one yet, nor have I saved up the money to do it, but I am looking so if any of you out there know of any short story writing courses that they would like to recommend please leave a comment.  Okay now I’ve shared one of my goals on my list for the New Year, why don’t you share one with me.
